PDP chair: Babatope knocks Wike, Makarfi for backing Secondus

Oladimeji Ramon
A member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has described as provocative the adoption of Mr. Uche Secondus for the party’s national chairmanship position by the South-South stakeholders.
Babatope, in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, said the South-South stakeholders were being unfair to the South-West, whose turn, according to him, was to produce the next PDP national chairman.
He described the action of the South-South stakeholders as divisive and berated the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, over his claim that the South-South was providing succour to the PDP.
Babatope, who accused the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, of dishonesty, said he should not be involved in the
composition of members of the committees for the party’s convention.
Babatope said, “We (the Yoruba) will never be servile to anyone at all. And most importantly, we will never compromise on the position of the National Chairman of our great party.
“It is our turn! And this much must be respected. Anything less than this is outright unacceptable. This is why Makarfi must recuse himself from the composition of all committees of the convention.
“Makarfi is not honest. He is working for Wike. That is the absolute truth.”
He added, “The crass insistence and the insulting protestation of Governor Nyesom Wike that the South-South is the zone providing succour to the PDP is rather crude and insensitive. And it is not true. Right from the formation of the party, the Yoruba people have been consistent in their devotion and loyalty to the party. And they have been very supportive in financial fillip to the party.
“But Wike is not really the one to blame. The fault solely lies with Senator Ahmed Makarfi who is blinded by personal ambition and apparent greed that could not make him think clearly and selflessly about the issue at hand.
“It is Makarfi who has deliberately mangled and distorted the micro-zoning tradition of our great party which has given the PDP well over 16 years of inclusive and all embracing accommodating nature.
“Now the very fundamental fabric and dominating principle of the party is torn asunder. We are no longer at ease.
“The pronouncement of the South-South Stakeholders is not only provocative, it is divisive, skewed, untidy, and a blatant slide into tribal political arrangement. Do they think the good people of Oduduwa land will just sit down and take it? They are dead wrong.”

Traffic Signs and Signals

As a result of the United Nations Sponsored Workshop on Road Signs and Signals, Road Traffic Administration and Road Safety Legal Instruments which held at the CBN International Training Institute, Abuja – Tuesday 28th to Wednesday 29th November, 2017, with particular reference to the 1968 Convention on Road Signs and Signals, this week’s article throws a little bit of light on traffic signs. Traffic signs and signals help indicate the rules of the road and are designed for the safe movement of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. As a driver, you are required to know them. The shapes of traffic signs enable you to identify them easily. Clear and efficient signing is an essential part of highway and traffic engineering and a road with poor signing or with badly maintained signs is classed as an unsatisfactory road. With this in mind, Nigerian roads could be classed as unsatisfactory, as they are bare of road signs. Road users depend on signing for information and guidance, enforceme...

Kano guber: Tribunal grants PDP candidate permission to inspect INEC materials

Kano  State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, access to the electoral materials used for the recent governorship elections. Ruling on the application brought before it, Justice Halima Shamaki asked INEC to grant the party and its candidate access to the certified true copies of the electoral materials used for the conduct of the governorship elections held on March 9 and 23, in the state. Justice Shamaki, however, ordered that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should present two or three persons during the inspection. Counsel to the applicants, Barrister Mliki Umar, had filed an ex-parte motion dated April 4. In it, he had sought for permission to inspect the ballot papers, Form EC8 family and any other materials relevant in the preparation of their governorship election petition.   Meanwh...
