The leading Yoruba social-political group, Afenifere has flayed the National Assembly for declaring Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo’s 135.6 billion virement request “overtaken by event.”
Osinbajo as the Acting President while President Muhammadu Buhari was in London on medical vacation, had, on July 20, 2017, written to both chambers of the National Assembly, seeking approval for the re-allocation of some funds in the 2017 budget.
The sum was needed to execute some critical projects such as the Lagos-Ibadan express-way and the Second Niger Bridge.
Afenifere said the lawmakers’ decision showed insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians.
Afenifere, also said on Wednesday, that the legislatures’ action showed some of them were against development.
Afenifere Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, in a statement, said that NASS should be worried by the number of lives being lost in auto crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He said, “It is quite insensitive and a clear signal that some people are bent on opposing any development in the South-West region.
“That road is a major artery to this country – North, South, East and everywhere. We know the high number of deaths being recorded on that road every day.
“So, it is highly insensitive for the National Assembly not to approve the necessary fund that would enable the fixing of that road.”
He added, “They (South-West lawmakers) have not been proactive on the project, they should take a firm position, people are being killed like fowls and they can’t just be there without taking a strong position on the project.”

Traffic signs and signals help indicate the rules of the road and are designed for the safe movement of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. As a driver, you are required to know them. The shapes of traffic signs enable you to identify them easily. Clear and efficient signing is an essential part of highway and traffic engineering and a road with poor signing or with badly maintained signs is classed as an unsatisfactory road. With this in mind, Nigerian roads could be classed as unsatisfactory, as they are bare of road signs. Road users depend on signing for information and guidance, enforceme...
