Image result for Wike an “outstanding leader”
By Dirisu Yakubu ABUJA – Immediate past Nigeria’s President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has felicitated with Rivers State governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike on the occasion of his 50th birthday. Dr. Jonathan described the governor as an outstanding leader who has contributed his part in the development of the nation.

In a goodwill message issued by his spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze, the erstwhile President lauded Wike’s leadership style even as he described him as a listening governor.

“You are a notable democrat whose responsive and transformational pattern of leadership positively affects the lives of your people. “As the peoples’ governor, you have made a mark for yourself, by shunning the convenient highway of political acceptability and opting to spend more time with the good people of Rivers State, listening to their hopes and aspirations, and attending to their every day needs. “Through your visionary leadership, you have raised the bar in accountable governance with the unparalleled delivery of social and physical infrastructure; a commitment that have earned you a fitting epithet, ‘Mr. Projects’. “Your Excellency, I pray that God Almighty will preserve and protect you as you continue to improve the fortunes of Rivers State and transform the lives of the people,” the statement read.

PENGASSAN is on industrial action

Meanwhile the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), whose members mainly work in the upstream oil industry, started the industrial action after talks with government agencies ended in deadlock, said Lumumba Okugbawa. The move could hit the country’s crude oil production and dent exports, as was the case in December 2016 during industrial action by the union against Exxon Mobil. Nigeria is Africa’s largest crude exporter and oil sales make up two-thirds of government revenue. “PENGASSAN is on industrial action as a result of unfair labour practices by some companies, particularly indigenous oil and gas companies,” said Okugbawa. The dispute arose after domestic oil and gas companies and marginal field operators laid off members of the union. Marginal fields refer to discoveries made by oil majors during exploration of larger acreage but which have been left for others to develop. The union leader said office workers and staff working in di...
