FG Inaugurates C’ttee to Organise State Burial for Ekwueme

The federal government has inaugurated a committee to be saddled with the burial of the late former Vice-President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
The committee was inaugurated yesterday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
 A statement issued last night by Mohammed T. K. Nakorji, the Deputy Director (Press), Office of the SGF, said Mustapha would serve as the chairman of the 10-man committee that has the following people as members: Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; Minister of  Finance, Kemi Adeosun; Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris  Ngige;  Inspector General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris, and Director General, Department of State Service (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura.
Others are Pastor Goodheart Obi Ekwueme, Secretary to the Anambra State Government; Prof. Osita Chukwulobelu and Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, OSGF; Dr. Roy Ugo, who is designated as the secretary.
 Ekwueme, who was the vice president to Alhaji Shehu Shagari in the defunct Second Republic from 1979 to 1983, died in a London hospital on November 19 at the age of 85.
While eulogising  Ekwueme for rendering meritorious service to the nation, Mustapha assured the family members, who are part of the committee, that Ekwueme would be given a befitting state burial.
The SGF said the federal government would foot the bill as well as evacuate the body from the London hospital to Nigeria.

Kano guber: Tribunal grants PDP candidate permission to inspect INEC materials

Kano  State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, access to the electoral materials used for the recent governorship elections. Ruling on the application brought before it, Justice Halima Shamaki asked INEC to grant the party and its candidate access to the certified true copies of the electoral materials used for the conduct of the governorship elections held on March 9 and 23, in the state. Justice Shamaki, however, ordered that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should present two or three persons during the inspection. Counsel to the applicants, Barrister Mliki Umar, had filed an ex-parte motion dated April 4.
