Ahead of the 2019 election, a three-time House Of Reps Member, Hon. Herman Hembe from Benue state who was recently sacked by Supreme court has announced his return back into his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party together with thousands of his supporters. Recall that Hon. Herman Hembe was sacked from the House of Representative and replaced with Hon. Mrs Dorothy Mato by the Supreme court last year following a ‘failed’ primaries. Decamping back to the party he said; I have finally come back home after an unbearable rigmarole in my political sojourn with the strange APC, thank you, my people of Jechira-Barr Herman Hembe, he said. Former INEC boss Jega gets new appointment

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has appointed a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, to chair a committee for the establishment of Yusuf Maitama Sule Centre for the Advancement of Politics and Democratic Governance in Kano. The state government said it is establishing the centre as a tribute to the contributions of late Maitama Sule, to political and democratic development in the north and Nigeria in general. According to the governor, the centre will be used for research and scholarly discourse for the advancement of politics and democratic governance. APC Crisis: Oyegun launches counter moves, calls Tinubu’s bluff

Embattled National chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, John Odigie Oyegun has launched counter moves to tackle his possible removal as chairman of the party. Oyegun has reportedly gone underground and is scheming to retain his position as chairman in the forthcoming party convention scheduled for June 2018. It will be recalled that Oyegun and the national leader of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been at loggerheads over the tenure extension of the NWC committee of the party. It is believed that the anti-Oyegun forces within the party are being led by Tinubu. Bibles can no longer be purchased online in China despite the government publishing a new document claiming that it allows freedom of worship. The disappearance of Bibles on internet retailers is the latest restriction the country had placed on its fast-growing Christian population. Religious freedom campaigners have said freedom for Christians in China has been the worst it’s ever been. The crackdown on Christians in China has meant that crosses have been removed from churches, churches have been demolished, and Christians suspected of worshiping at home have been detained. N-Power, other SIP programmes failing – Senate blasts Buhari govt

Nigerian Senate yesterday declared that the N-Power and other National Social Investment Programmes under the Buhari government were not being felt by the people. The lawmakers stated this after Maryam Uwais, the special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on NSIP informed the National Assembly that the programme received between 2016 and 2017 N175billion out of the N1 trillion approved in the budgets for the two years. Senator Danjuma Goje, chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation openly criticized the scheme when Uwais appeared to provide clarification on the 2018 budget estimate. The special adviser said: “You may kindly recall that a sum of N500 billion was appropriated for the NSIP budget in 2017, out of which N100 billion was allocated for the Social Housing Scheme under the Federal Ministry of Finance. “Further more, out of the balance N400 billion, only N90 billion was released to the NSIP for the year 2017.” She also said that the programme received the

Kaduna killings: Nigerian govt blows hot

Minister of Interior, Abdulrahaman Dambazzau, on Tuesday said the Federal Government is mapping out strategies to halt the incessant killings in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State. Dambazzau made the remarks during a visit to the troubled area to assess the security situation. He said that government was very concerned about the situation in Kaduna State, particularly the Birnin-Gwari axis, and would do everything to restore order. Dambazzau also visited the palace of the Emir of Birnin-Gwari, Jubril Maigwari. “The Federal Government is worried over continuous killings, kidnappings and cattle rustling by armed bandits in Birnin-Gwari and is already mapping out strategies to nab the bandits responsible,” he sad. In his remarks, Maigwari decried the persistent killings of his people, and appealed to government to intensify efforts to rid the area of bandits. My people are being killed on daily basis – Emir of Birnin-Gwari q

The Emir of Birnin-Gwari in Kaduna State, Malam Jibril Zubairu Mai-Gwari II has cried out that people are being killed in his Emirate on daily basis. He therefore asked the Federal Government to intensify efforts at getting rid of the bandits terrorizing the area. The Emir made the call at his palace on Tuesday evening while receiving the Minister of Interior, Lt.
